The Mutual Fund · Campaign Live

$1 from each of us. A grant for one of us.

Every paying subscription puts $1 into a shared fund. At 500 subscribers, it unlocks a $500 monthly grant — and the amount keeps growing as we do. No outside foundation. No institution deciding what artists are worth. Just us, funding each other.

The Unlock

500 subscribers unlocks the first grant.

We are building toward 500 paying subscribers. The moment we cross that line, the fund goes live and the first monthly grant goes out — $500, straight to one artist in our community. Every subscriber after that raises the number for everyone.

500

subscribers unlocks the fund — first grant: $500/month

1,000

subscribers grows it to a $1,000/month grant

it keeps scaling — $1 per subscriber, every single month

Subscribing to artwOOrk is the single most direct thing you can do to bring the first grant to life.

Why we're doing this differently.

+

Artists have spent generations waiting on grants from institutions that were never built for us — applications that demand essays and pedigree, juries that reward the already-connected, and timelines that move slower than rent is due. We're done waiting on systems that weren't designed with us in mind.

So we're building our own. Not a foundation handing money down from above, but a fund built from the ground up — by artists, for artists, out of the simplest possible mechanism: a single dollar from every paying subscription, pooled together and redirected straight back into the community that built it.

This is what artist-built infrastructure looks like. Not asking an institution to value us — building the system ourselves, and trusting each other to carry it. Every subscription is two things at once: a vote of confidence in your own practice, and a direct contribution to someone else's.

How the fund actually works.

+

The math is deliberately simple, because trust depends on being able to see exactly how something works.

  • $1 from every active paying subscription is set aside into the community fund, every month.
  • The fund stays dormant — building — until artwOOrk reaches 500 paying subscribers.
  • At 500 subscribers, the fund unlocks: $500 is granted to one artist in the community, every single month, going forward.
  • From then on, the grant simply equals the number of paying subscribers in dollars. 750 subscribers is a $750 grant. 2,000 is a $2,000 grant.

There is no cap. There is no separate fundraiser. The fund grows exactly as the community grows — which means every artist who joins is directly, mathematically responsible for making the next grant bigger.

Two kinds of support, one subscription.

+

Subscribing to artwOOrk does two things for you at once. It hands you the financial and professional infrastructure to run your own practice like the business it is — and it puts a dollar of your subscription directly into the hands of another artist. You are never just a customer here. You are a contributor.

What you get for your own practice

  • AI-powered pricing built from your actual exhibition history and career data (Studio subscription · always opt-in — read our position on AI)
  • Proposal budget builders, invoice generation, and contract templates
  • A grant and opportunities tracker, a permanent work registry, and a shareable CV & portfolio
  • A cash flow dashboard and tax export — a real picture of your practice's financial health

What you give to the community

$1 of your subscription, every month, into a fund that exists for one purpose: putting real money directly into a fellow artist's hands, no jury and no institution standing in between.

How to get behind it.

Two steps. That is all it takes to move the number.

1

Download artwOOrk and start your 30-day free trial — full access to every feature, no charge until your trial ends. Subscribing afterward is what funds the grant, dollar for dollar, and brings the unlock closer for everyone.

Join the mailing list to follow the count toward 500 — and be the first to know when the fund unlocks, when applications open, and who the fund supports each month.

That's the whole campaign. Every artist who subscribes moves the count closer to 500 — and makes the eventual grant bigger for whoever receives it. Sharing this page with another artist counts too. The fund only exists because we build it together.

FAQs

What happened to the Foundation Grant?+

We retired the quarterly $250 random-draw model. In its place is something we believe is more honest and more powerful: a fund built directly from the community, that grows as the community grows, instead of a fixed amount given away on a schedule regardless of how artwOOrk is doing.

How exactly does $1 per subscription become a grant?+

Every month, $1 from each active paying subscription is set aside into a community fund. That fund stays dormant while we grow toward 500 paying subscribers. The moment we cross 500, the fund unlocks and starts paying out monthly — at an amount equal to the number of paying subscribers in dollars.

So at 500 subscribers, the grant is $500?+

Yes. At 500 paying subscribers, the monthly grant is $500. At 1,000, it is $1,000. At 2,500, it is $2,500. The grant scales directly and transparently with the size of the community — there is no cap.

Why 500 subscribers as the unlock point?+

It is the point where the fund becomes meaningful and sustainable — large enough to genuinely change an artist's month, and steady enough that we can commit to paying it out every single month going forward, not just once.

What happens to the $1 contributions before we hit 500 subscribers?+

They accumulate in the fund. Nothing is lost — the count simply builds toward the unlock. Once we cross 500, the monthly payout begins and continues every month after, scaling with the subscriber count at that time.

Do I have to do anything extra to contribute?+

No. If you are a paying artwOOrk subscriber, you are already contributing — $1 of your subscription goes into the fund automatically, every month, for as long as you remain subscribed. There is nothing additional to sign up for.

Will free trial users' subscriptions count toward the fund?+

The fund is built from active paying subscriptions. Your 30-day free trial gives you full access to the app first — once you choose to continue as a paying subscriber, your subscription begins contributing to the fund and counts toward the 500 needed to unlock it.

How will the monthly recipient be chosen?+

We are building the selection process in the open, with input from the community before the first payout goes out. The goal is the same spirit this whole campaign is built on — equal access, no jury, no insider advantage, and a process every artist can see and trust.

When will the first grant go out?+

As soon as we cross 500 paying subscribers. There is no fixed date — the timeline is entirely in the community's hands. The faster we grow together, the sooner the first artist gets paid.

Is this a one-time campaign or an ongoing program?+

Ongoing, by design. Once the fund unlocks at 500 subscribers, it pays out every month from then on — not as a single event, but as a permanent, growing part of what artwOOrk is.

Can artwOOrk change or end the fund later?+

The commitment is simple and public: $1 from every paying subscription goes to the fund, and the fund pays out monthly once it unlocks. We are building this in the open specifically so the community can hold us to it.

How do I follow the progress toward 500?+

Join the mailing list below. We will share regular updates on how close we are to the unlock, and announce the moment it happens — along with how the first grant will be distributed.

What does the mailing list include?+

Updates on the fund's progress toward 500 subscribers, the unlock announcement, monthly recipient reveals, new feature updates, upcoming opportunities, and direct invitations to help shape the platform. We will never sell your data or share it with third parties. Your information belongs to you.
