The artwOOrk Data Cooperative is a separate, community-owned entity alongside artwOOrk Inc. Artists who contribute their real pricing data become founding members — and collectively own the dataset. One member, one vote. Built by artists, owned by artists.
The cooperative is structured as a Limited Cooperative Association — one member, one vote. It is not a feature of artwOOrk Inc. It is a separate entity, and the dataset it holds belongs to the artists who generate it, not to a corporation.
The art world has always controlled pricing intelligence. Galleries, dealers, and institutions have known what art is worth for decades. Artists have been left to guess. The data cooperative inverts that structure — when artists anonymously share what they actually charge and what they have actually been paid, the collective intelligence becomes more accurate and more powerful for every artist who comes after them.
The AI pricing calculator was temporary scaffolding. The community data is the permanent solution.
Artists download artwOOrk free and contribute their pricing data anonymously — what they charge for commissions, exhibitions, workshops, licensing, and public art. That data feeds a growing dataset of real artist pricing history.
Members can see aggregate benchmarks — what artists in their medium, career stage, and geography actually earn — without ever seeing individual artist data. Every contribution makes the intelligence stronger for the whole community.
Founding members join free. Contributing pricing data is the membership fee. In return, members receive:
The cooperative licenses the dataset back to artwOOrk Inc. for use in the pricing calculator — and the revenue from that license flows back to cooperative members. When artwOOrk reaches 500 paying subscribers, the cooperative also distributes the $500 monthly fund to one founding member, selected at random. No essay, no jury.
All individual data is private and visible only to the artist who submitted it. Aggregate and benchmarking data is anonymized before it is surfaced to any member. No individual artist's specific numbers are ever visible to other members.
The cooperative's governance layer means any use of the aggregate dataset beyond artwOOrk requires a member vote. The data doesn't move without the people who built it agreeing to it.
As the cooperative grows, the AI becomes less necessary — community data replaces AI inference. Pricing intelligence stops being a guess and becomes a mirror of what artists in similar situations actually earn.
The goal is a cooperative where the data moat belongs to the community, not to a platform. The first community-owned pricing intelligence in the art world.
