About

Built out of necessity.

artwOOrk is a professional platform for working artists — built by one.

As a working conceptual artist, I spent years navigating an industry with no rulebook and no infrastructure. Pricing based on gut instinct. Expenses tracked in spreadsheets that never quite held together. Contracts signed without fully understanding what I was giving away. Commissions that cost more to complete than they paid. I was doing what every artist I knew was doing, which is figuring it out alone, in the dark, and often paying for it.

The art world is one of the least regulated industries in the world. That lack of regulation isn't incidental, it's the environment that allows artists to be exploited, underpaid, and undervalued at every stage of their careers. The pricing knowledge, the financial tools, the contract templates, the market data — all of it has historically belonged to galleries, dealers, and institutions. Artists, the people who actually make the work, have been the last to know what it's worth.

I built artwOOrk because I needed it. And because I knew I wasn't the only one.

This app is part of my art practice.

+

My work as a conceptual artist has always been rooted in community. In building things that invite people closer, that generate warmth, that ask something of their audience in return. artwOOrk is an extension of that practice. It's not separate from my art. It is my art applied to the systemic problem of how artists survive.

Providing resources to the community I come from is part of why I make work at all. If I can use the technical skills I've built to give other artists what I never had — a fair shot at understanding their own value, protecting their own work, and building a practice that lasts — that's not a side project. That's the point.

What artwOOrk is built to do.

+

artwOOrk is a complete professional platform for working visual artists. Everything a sustainable practice requires, in one place:

  • Project management, time tracking, and expense logging
  • Invoice generation, contract templates, and proposal budget builders
  • A grant and opportunities tracker
  • A work registry
  • A shareable CV and portfolio
  • A cash flow dashboard and tax export

artwOOrk is a living platform shaped continuously by the artists who use it, improved by their feedback, and growing more powerful as the community grows. The goal has always been bigger than a tool. The goal is an ecosystem where artists share knowledge, support each other's practices, and build collective power in a market that has long counted on us not having any.

Our position on AI.

+

artwOOrk is not an AI app. AI is one tool, used in one specific place, for a specific reason — and the plan is to eventually not need it.

The problem AI is solving right now is structural: there is no pricing intelligence infrastructure for artists. Unlike real estate — where comparable sales are public record — or financial markets where prices are transparent, the fine art market is opaque by design. That opacity protects galleries and collectors. Artists are left guessing what their work is worth, or accepting what someone else tells them it's worth, which is not the same thing.

Until enough artists are contributing data to each other, we need another strategy. Right now, AI can analyze your career history, exhibition record, medium, and market context to generate a defensible price range — not a gut call. It's an imperfect bridge to where we're actually going: a community-generated database of what artists in your practice area, at your career stage, in your market, actually charge. That kind of collective intelligence will be far more accurate than any AI, because it will come from the artists themselves — anonymously, optionally, on their own terms.

Until we get there, here is exactly what AI does and does not do in artwOOrk:

  • AI is used for one thing: pricing analysis and negotiation language. It is available only on the Studio subscription — not on free or Pro tiers.
  • AI is always opt-in. Nothing is sent without your direct action. You are asked for explicit consent the first time, and you can withdraw it at any time from your Profile.
  • When AI pricing is used, only anonymized data is submitted — career stage, credential counts, medium, and location category. Your name, your email, and the names of specific galleries, venues, or institutions you've worked with are never included.
  • Anthropic, the company behind Claude (the AI we use), does not store or use your data to train its models.

As artwOOrk grows, the long-term plan is to build our own data layer: anonymous, opt-in benchmarking that surfaces what artists like you are actually charging in markets like yours. That data will be owned by and used exclusively for the artists who contribute it. Not sold, not aggregated for outside research, not handed to anyone in the market who benefits from keeping artists in the dark. AI is a tool we are using carefully, temporarily, for a specific problem — not an identity, and not something we are building toward.

Where it's going.

+

As the community grows, so does artwOOrk's ability to fight for artists in ways that individual artists cannot fight alone. Community benchmarking will surface what artists like you actually charge in your market — breaking open the pricing opacity that exploitation depends on. Resale royalty tracking will follow work into the secondary market and ensure artists see a share of what their work continues to generate. The app will flag unauthorized use of artists' work across the web and in AI training datasets. Collective enforcement will give artists negotiating power they've never had as individuals.

There is strength in community. The more artists who bring their practice into artwOOrk, the more powerful the platform becomes. Not just for each individual user, but for all of us. Every artist who knows their worth makes it harder for the industry to pretend we don't.

We are not exploitable when we know our worth.

artwOOrk is free to try for 30 days — full access to every feature. A payment method is required by Apple to begin the trial, but you will not be charged if you cancel before 30 days. No essay, no conditions. And every paying subscription puts $1 into a community fund — at 500 subscribers it unlocks a monthly grant for one artist, and it keeps growing as we do. Because sustaining artists isn't a launch event. It's the whole point.

Built by an artist. Made collectively. And just getting started.
